professional, confidential counselling to help you create the life you want

Kia Ora and Welcome

Every person has a unique story and strengths. Counselling is a safe and confidential space to talk about personal challenges, relationships and difficult life experiences. In our work together, we can also explore your hopes, dreams, new perspectives and preferred ways of being. Ultimately, what we focus on is up to you. I am passionate about helping people find meaning in their lives and to develop a better understanding of themselves. It is an honour to get to know you and to be a part of your journey.

About me

I am originally from Thunder Bay, Canada and have had the privilege of living in New Zealand since 2012. I am a māmā, partner, sister, daughter, friend, advocate, and counsellor. I value diversity and respect our differences and similarities as “fellow travelers” in this journey of life (Yalom, 1995).

I have been in private practice since October 2023. I began my career in 2003 working alongside young people and families in clinical and community settings; in both residential care and in alternative education. Over the years, I’ve held a variety of roles in the social service and mental health sectors. I worked as part of a hospital adolescent psychiatry team. I supported rangatahi (young people) transitioning out of state care, and I also supported whānau through an in-home therapy preogramme called MST. I completed a two year counselling internship at a University Health & Counselling Centre. Currently I offer individual online and in-person counselling sessions (in-person on a Friday at The Practice-Orewa House). I work with teens + adults dealing with a range of challenges.

My Approach

I practice from a Pluralistic approach (not a one-size-fits-all) and collaborate with you to determine ways of working together that will meet your needs. My therapy interests include narrative therapy, cognitive behavioural approaches, and solution-focused therapy, among others. I have trained in Multisystemic therapy (MST) and the structure of this model. I value indigenous models of health and healing; however, I recognize my limitations as tauiwi/non-Māori. I prefer to work holistically, considering the mind/body/spirit connection, alignment, and balance in your life.
